Professor Named Director of Undergraduate Research

Jill Singer, professor of earth sciences and science education, accepted a three-year appointment as director of the Undergraduate Research Office at Buffalo State College. Singer, who completed a two-year assignment as a program director for the National Science Foundation in May, is currently president of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). CUR is a national organization that advocates collaborative research between undergraduate students and their professors.



The Undergraduate Research Office coordinates the annual Student Research and Creativity Celebration at Buffalo State; sponsors the Undergraduate Travel Award Program, which provides funds for students to travel to professional meetings if they are making presentations or performing; and sponsors the Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship Program, which awards seven fellowships of $2,500 each to undergraduates conducting research over the summer. Stipends for faculty mentors are also available.



Singer is a long-time advocate of undergraduate research who has helped to make the Student Research and Creativity Celebration at Buffalo State an annual event. This year’s Celebration is scheduled for April 30 and May1.
