Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Opens New Barnes and Noble Bookstore at Buffalo State College
Buffalo State College held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new bookstore, Barnes and Noble at Buffalo State, on Friday, May 4, 2001.
The new 16,000-square-foot store, located on the main floor of the Campbell Student Union, will serve Buffalo State's more than 11,000 full- and part-time students and 1,100 faculty and staff, as well as the community-at-large. A reception and tours followed the ribbon cutting.
Barnes and Noble at Buffalo State was designed by Harrington/Sandberg Architects, P.C., and constructed by Patrick Development of W.N.Y., Inc. The new store features an expanded trade book department and academic reference book department - customized for the various academic programs and courses Buffalo State College offers - in a library-like setting with lounge chairs and reading tables. The bookstore also features a world news and periodicals section as well as a dorm shop, convenience store and "Java City Cafe," serving specialty coffees, teas, iced coffees, flavored ices, bakery items, soups and sandwiches. Internet access ports and terminals are available for customer use.
Barnes and Noble at Buffalo State is open seven days a week. Monday through Thursday, the store hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; on Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
On Saturday, May 5, Barnes and Noble at Buffalo State remained open until 5 p.m. and feature special community opening specials, including music by Jessie Butler with The Missionary Gospel Singers and a book signing from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. by Pattie Meyer Lee and Gary Lee, local authors of "Don't Bother Knockin', This Town's a Rockin."
A campus grand opening will be held September 13 to help inaugurate the 2001-2002 academic year.
