Scholarship Profile: Kevin Kaminski, '11
"Actions speak louder than words,” said Kevin Kaminski, “but words can be pretty loud if you know how to use them.” Kaminski, who studied English secondary education, is looking forward to sharing his love of literature with his future students.
Kaminski joined the college’s learning community “Be a Hero, Be a Teacher” during his first year. He especially valued the opportunity to observe teachers in their classrooms, beginning to master the methods by which a teacher can get students excited about reading and literature.
Kaminski was also a student in the All College Honors Program (ACHP), which he valued for many reasons. “Emotionally, from a future teacher’s point of view,” he said, “the scholarship is encouraging. It shows that there are people who will support a program that challenges students and rewards them for their pursuit of knowledge.”
The professors inspired him. “One of my professors made me rethink math completely,” he said. “We looked at math as an art form; we studied infinity.”
The scholarship also bought Kaminski an important freedom: freedom to study. “Instead of worrying about earning enough money to pay my whole tuition,” he said, “I could take in knowledge.”
