School Records Fall; Swimming & Diving Completes Second Day at SUNYACs

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State’s swimmers set a pair of new school standards as the second day of the 2007 SUNYAC Championships went in the record books today at the ECC Flickinger Aquatic Center. Both the men’s and women’s teams are currently seventh of nine teams.

The women’s 200 medley relay of Miranda Warner (Elmira/Horseheads), Karli Bender (Orchard Park/Mt. Mercy), Megan Farrell (Akron/Akron) and Caitlin Morsch (Avon/Avon) started the day with a school record time of 1:56.39, placing sixth in the event. Warner also bettered her own school record in the 100 back (1:03.24), taking 14th place. Bender also scored in the 100 fly, finishing 16th (1:06.46).

Four men scored in the 400 individual medley, led by Kevin Buisman’s (Penfield/Penfield) sixth-place finish (4:23.74). Mike Luther (Hamburg/Frontier) was 11th (4:30.76), Vince Wasneechak (Gorham, ME/Lemoore CA) placed 12th (4:34.83) and Bryant Stewart (Owego/Owego Free) touched 15th (4:38.39). Lance Thornton (Hastings/Hastings) was 12th in the 100 fly (56.24), and Eric Hastings (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) was 13th in the 200 free (1:49.61). Buisman (9th – 1:02.29), Thornton (12th – 1:02.81) and Tim Harroun (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) (15th – 1:03.32) also had strong showings in the 100 breast. Luther also scored in the 100 back, finishing 14th (57.62).

The meet will conclude tomorrow with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and the finals beginning at 6 p.m.
