Shawn Colvin Next in Great Performers Series

Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Shawn Colvin will present a solo acoustic show at 8:00 p.m. December 16 at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Rockwell Hall.

Colvin’s inimitable voice, matchless guitar stylings, and cathartic songs, have become treasured, lifetime companions for listeners.

Colvin is the 83rd performer in the Great Performers Series that began at Buffalo State in 2001. Sponsored by M&T Bank, the series features six to 10 established performers annually. The PAC stage has hosted genres ranging from jazz to classical and has included such names as David Sanborn, Suzanne Vega, and Marc Cohn.

“The Great Performers Series was started to create a brand for the venue,” explained Jeff Marsha, director of operations for the PAC. “Up to that point, the programming was all over the place.”

Since then, the PAC, with helps from its sponsors, has offered audiences a great night of music—and occasionally comedy—in an intimate setting with state-of-the-art acoustics at an affordable price.

Colvin is an excellent example of the caliber of talent the PAC attracts.

In the 19 years since her debut album was released, Colvin has won three Grammy awards. They include "Record of the Year" for A Few Small Repairs (1996) and "Song of the Year" for the hit ballad “Sunny Came Home,” which would prove to be her breakthrough. Her latest album, All Fall Down, is Colvin’s eighth studio album and features performances by Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and Jakob Dylan, among others.

Colvin also penned a memoir, Diamond in the Rough, which Harper Collins published last May. The book is a natural extension of the personal and often hilarious stories that she weaves into her live shows.

Tickets to the performance are $35 for lower tier; $30 for upper tier; and $27 for Buffalo State faculty, staff, and senior citizens. Students can purchase tickets one hour prior to the performance for $15. Call (716) 878-3005 or visit https://secure3.ticketguys.com/buffalo/.
