Sociologist and Author to Speak on How Gender, Sexuality Contribute to Bullying

At a time when too many bullying incidents have turned deadly, parents, educators, and teens need a clearer understanding of how gender and sexuality contribute to bullying and what they can do to prevent it. 

Buffalo State is hosting a lecture Monday, March 5, on this timely issue. Guest speaker C.J. Pascoe will deliver the address, “Bullied: Youth, Masculinity, and Homophobia,” from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center North. It is free and open to the public.

Pascoe is an assistant professor at Colorado College and teaches courses on sexuality, social psychology, deviance, gender, and education. She also authored the book, Dude, You’re a Fag: Masculinity and Sexuality in High School, which won the American Educational Research Association’s 2007 Book of the Year Award.

Buffalo State’s Women and Gender Studies program is hosting the event as part of its Women’s History Month celebration. It is co-sponsored by the Grant Allocation Committee, Faculty-Student Association, Intellectual Foundations, the School of Education, and the School of Natural and Social Sciences.
