Softball Avenges Loss With 14-Run Outburst Against RIT

ROCHESTER, NY—Buffalo State (12-6) avenged a 3-2 loss to RIT (9-11) in opener with an offensive explosion in a 14-4 five-inning win in the nightcap of today’s non-conference doubleheader.

RIT scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning in the opener, and held the Bengals off to claim the one-run victory in the opener. Nicole Maher (Waterloo/ Waterloo) led the Bengals’ bats, going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Karen Oste (Jamestown/ Maple Grove) was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/ Williamsville North) suffered the loss, allowing six hits and three runs with five strikeouts.

Maher paced the outburst in the second game that included a nine-run fifth, going 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Christina Tschari (Clarence/Clarence) was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Danielle Gaimari (N. Syracuse/ CNS) earned her first collegiate win on the mound, giving up seven hits and four runs.

Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play on Friday with a home doubleheader against Cortland.
