Softball Bats Come to Life in Sweep of Indiana Tech

CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (3-3) rediscovered its offense today, pounding 20 hits and plating 12 runs in a two-game sweep over Indiana Tech (8-8) at the USA National Training Center. The Bengals won 4-1 and 8-2.

Buffalo State assembled a three-run fourth inning to open the scoring and then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Indiana Tech capitalized on a pair of Bengal errors in the bottom of the seventh to plate its only run, but did not mount a serious threat. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/ Frontier) tossed a complete-game two-hitter, allowing no earned runs. Nicole Maher (Waterloo/ Waterloo) continued her timely hitting, going 1 for 2 with a triple and three RBIs. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) added a triple and a run scored, and Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/ Mt. St. Mary) was 1 for 4 with an RBI.

Buffalo State scored early and often in the second game, taking a 6-0 lead through three innings, and coasted to an 8-2 win. Freshman Karen Oste (Jamestown/ Maple Grove) was 2 for 3 with a triple to pace the Bengals’ offense. Maher remained hot, going 2 for 4 with a double, triple and an RBI. Mariano was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Jenna Freiling (E. Amherst/ Williamsville North) earned the win in the circle, allowing just three hits.

Buffalo State will face Carleton (MN) in a pair of games on Tuesday starting at 9:30 a.m.
