Softball Beats Plattsburgh; Season Ends With Loss to Oneonta

Buffalo State (29-11) stayed alive in the double-elimination SUNYAC Championships this morning with a convincing 6-0 win over third-seed Plattsburgh, but had its season come to a close this afternoon with a 4-2 loss to No. 4 Oneonta (20-15).

Buffalo State broke a scoreless tie in the opener against Plattsburgh, when Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) led off the fifth inning with a solo-homerun. The Bengals added another run in the fifth and plated four more in the sixth to clinch the victory. Ranmacher finished 3 for 3 with the homerun, a double and three RBIs. Alyssa Brosius (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) was in control the whole game on the mound, allowing just four hits and five walks, striking out nine for the shutout.

Oneonta took an early lead in the second game on an apparent three-run homerun in the top of the first inning. The batter was called out after missing home plate, however, giving the Red Dragons a 2-0 lead. The Bengals rallied to tie the score with on a two-run single by Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) in the second inning. Oneonta added a run in the third inning and scored again on an error and sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to finish the scoring. Hutten finished 1 for 4. Rammacher was 2 for 2. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) allowed five hits and two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings in the loss.

Buffalo State finishes the season with its highest win total since 2000.
