Softball Blasts SUNYIT to Open Conference Schedule
Buffalo State (11-1/2-0) swept visiting SUNYIT (0-9/0-2), winning 6-1 and 17-0 in five innings, to open the SUNYAC schedule for both teams today at Bengal Field.
Buffalo State broke a 1-1 tie in the opener with five unearned runs in the sixth inning. Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) led the Bengals’ offense with a 2-for-4 performance with a double, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Alyssa Brosius (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) was 1 for 1 with an RBI, and Brooke Matheis (Hamburg/Williamsville South) was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) earned her fifth win of the season on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out nine.
In the nightcap, the Bengals turned 15 hits, including six for extra bases, into 17 runs in the five-inning win. Sirianni led the attack again, going 4 for 4 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) added a three-run inside-the-park homerun. Melissa Balsavage (Depew/Depew) earned the win on the mound, scattering four hits and striking out five.
Buffalo State will host Brockport on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
