Softball Breaks Even; Tops Lawrence, Falls to Whitewater

Buffalo State wrapped up its trip to Ft. Myers, FL this morning, defeating Lawrence (WI), 4-2, before falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater, 6-4.

The Bengals needed eight innings to sneak past Lawrence in the opener. Lauren Mruk (Lancaster) was 2-for-3, including a two-run homerun in the seventh inning to tie the score, and Heidi Rammacher (Lakeshore) drove in the winning run in the eighth. Liz Beiter (N. Tonawanda) went the distance on the mound, registering five strikeouts and allowing just four hits.

Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls) went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Tiffany Ciolek (Salamanca) was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss to Whitewater. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster) started on the mound, allowing four runs in six hits in three innings, before Melissa Balsavage (Depew) allowed two runs on six hits over the final three frames.

Buffalo State is 5-5 and is scheduled to visit Penn State Behrend for a doubleheader on March 30.
