Softball Comes Up Short Against Bethel
CLERMONT, Fla.—Bethel (3-3) scored both runs on passed balls to defeat Buffalo State (0-2), 2-1, today at the USA National Training Center. The Bengals stranded 11 runners in the game, including leaving bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Courtney Keleher (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West) was 2 for 3 for Buffalo State. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) was 2 for 4. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/ Williamsville North) took the hard-luck loss in the circle, allowing eight hits and no earned runs with two strikeouts.
Bethel opened the scoring with a run in the third inning, but the Bengals pulled even in the bottom of the inning when Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) doubled, scoring Nicole Maher (Waterloo/ Waterloo), who had doubled two batters earlier. Bethel plated the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.
Buffalo State will play a pair of games against Messiah (Pa.) tomorrow at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
