Buffalo State extended its winning-streak to 10 games today, as it swept Geneseo and sewed up the second seed at this week's SUNYAC Championship tournament. The Bengals won the opener 5-1, and outlasted the Knights in the nightcap, 1-0, in 10 innings.

Geneseo started the scoring in the opener with a run in the first inning, but Buffalo State scored three in the third and added two in the sixth to take the 5-1 victory. Liz Beiter (N. Tonawanda/N, Tonawanda) earned the win on the mound for the Bengals, as she allowed just six hits. Nicole Willats (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) paced the Buffalo State offense, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Freshman Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

In the second game, Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) scored the winning run on an illegal pitch in the bottom of the tenth inning. Scheffold started the inning on second base in accordance with the tie-breaker rule, and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West). Scheffold also recorded the win on the mound, scattering six hits in 10 innings of work. Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) went 2-for-3 and Mruk was 2-for-4.

Buffalo State improved to 24-12 overall and finished the conference regular season with a school record for conference wins at 16-4. The Bengals will open the SUNYAC Championships on Thursday against the No. 5 seed at noon.
