Softball Ends Regular Season With Wins at SUNYIT
UTICA, NY—Buffalo State (25-13/16-6) clinched the No. 3 seed in the SUNYAC playoffs, wrapping up its regular season with a pair of wins at SUNYIT (6-28/5-17) today, winning 3-0 and 8-3.
Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/ Williamsville North) extended her scoreless streak to 18 innings, tossing a complete game three-hitter with five strikeouts in the opener. Carly Lopez (Oriskany/ Oriskany) led the Bengals at the plate, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) had a double and an RBI, and Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West) was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Buffalo State scored eight runs on 15 hits in the second game. Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) was 2 for 4 with a homerun and four RBIs. Mooney and Becky Shank (Williamsville/ Williamsville East) both went 3 for 4. Arielle Austin (Smithtown/ Smithtown West) was 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and three runs scored. Lopez was also 2 for 4. Danielle Gaimari (N. Syracuse/ CNS) earned her second win of the season, scattering 10 hits.
Buffalo State will open the SUNYAC Championships on Thursday and will face No. 4 Brockport at 1 p.m. The tournament will be held at either Plattsburgh or Cortland, pending the results of tomorrow’s Plattsburgh/Geneseo results.
