Softball Falls Short Against Cortland in SUNYAC Championship Game
PLATTSBURGH, NY—Despite allowing just three Cortland hits, Buffalo State (28-15) fell short against the Red Dragons (34-11) by a 3-1 count in the SUNYAC Championship game today at Plattsburgh’s Cardinal Field.
Buffalo State scored first on a RBI by Karen Oste (Jamestown/ Maple Grove) in the top of the second inning. Cortland plated all three of its runs in the bottom of the third, however, capitalizing on a walk, an error and a two-run homerun. Both teams stranded base runner in the fourth, but then neither team threatened again.
Christina Tschari (Clarence/ Clarence) was 1 for 2 with a run scored. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/ Frontier) tossed the complete game, allowing just three hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts.
Tschari, Courtney Keleher (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West) and Jordan and Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
Buffalo State will wait and hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The field will be announced tomorrow morning.
