Softball Hammers Penn State Behrend for Doubleheader Sweep

Buffalo State (20-8) collected 26 hits in a two-game sweep of visiting Penn State Behrend (5-19), winning 8-3 and 8-0 in five innings, today at Bengal Field.

Despite committing five errors in the first game, Buffalo State was able to score an 8-3 victory on the strength of 13 hits. Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) led the Bengals’ offense, going 2 for 4 with two triples and two RBIs. Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) was 3 for 4 with an RBI, and Lindsey Matheis (Hamburg/Williamsville South) was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) added a solo-homer and earned the win on the mound, allowing six hits and no earned runs, striking out five.

Buffalo State continued to swing a hot bat in the second game, using 13 more hits to sprint to the 8-0 victory. Sirianni, Goldyn and Lauren Wright (Westfield/Westfield) were all 2 for 3 for the Bengals. Alyssa Brosius (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) was 2 for 2 with a triple and an RBI. Wright also earned the win on the mound with a two-hitter.

Buffalo State will host the University of Rochester on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
