Softball Plates 32 Runs, Sweeps Carleton

CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (5-3) scored 32 runs on 29 hits in just 10 offensive innings, defeating Carleton (MN) (0-9), 10-1 and 22-1, today at the USA National Training Center.

The Bengals needed just six innings to tally 10 runs on 14 hits in the opener. Nicole Maher (Waterloo/ Waterloo) led the attack again, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and five RBIs. Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West) was also 3 for 4. Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) was 2 for 4 with a homerun, a double and two RBIs. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) was also 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored, and Courtney Keleher (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West) was 2 for 3. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/ Frontier) earned the win in the circle, allowing five hits and no runs in five inning of work.

The fireworks continued in the second game as Buffalo State cruised to the 22-1 five-inning win that included an 11-run second inning. Freshman Arielle Austin (Smithtown/ Smithtown West) led the onslaught, going 5 for 5 with a triple and six RBIs. Jolene Banach was 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs. Carly Lopez (Oriskany/ Oriskany) was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and four runs scored, and Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/ Mt. St. Mary) was 2 for 2.

Buffalo State will complete its spring trip tomorrow with a doubleheader against Bethel beginning at 9:30 a.m.
