Softball Pounds Kalamazoo and Lasell
FT. MYERS, FL—Buffalo State (5-1) sprinted to a pair of victories, topping Kalamazoo (MI), 6-1, and Lasell (MA), 23-1, today at the Lee County Sports Complex.
In the first game, the Bengals finally opened the scoring with a five-run fifth inning that included a Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) three-run homerun. Kalamazoo and Buffalo State each traded runs in the sixth the complete the scoring. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) helped bolster the Bengals’ offense, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) earned the win on the mound, allowing four hits in three innings of relief. Cara Luzzi (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) started the game, pitching three scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits.
In the second game, 11 Buffalo State players combined for 19 hits as the Bengals blasted Lasell, 23-1. Twin sisters Jolene and Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) each homered to highlight an 11-run third inning. Jordan Banach finished 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out six. She also helped herself at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West), Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/Kenmore West), Mruk and Sabuda added two hits apiece for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will return to action on Wednesday at Cape Coral Complex against Albright (PA) and Trinity (CT) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
