BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (19-7/9-3) rallied in the second game to earn a split with No. 16 Plattsburgh (17-7/5-1), dropping the first game 5-4 in nine innings and winning 4-2, in a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Bengal Field

In the opener, Buffalo State took an early lead when Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) hit the first Plattsburgh pitch of the game over the leftfield fence. The Bengals lead swelled to 3-0 in the fourth inning, but Plattsburgh assembled a three-run sixth to even the score. The Cardinals added two more runs in the top of the ninth, and the Bengals could only plate one in the bottom of the inning to come up short. Jenna Schwartzmeyer (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was 1 for 3 with a homerun and an RBI, and Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) was also 1 for 3 with an RBI. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) suffered just her second loss of the season, allowing just five hits and two earned runs, and had eight strikeouts in nine innings.

Plattsburgh owned a 2-0 lead in the second game, until Buffalo State responded with a four-run fifth inning that included a two-run homerun by Fisher. Schwartzmeyer was strong in the circle and held on for the win, allowing two runs and scattering seven hits with four strikeouts. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) and Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) were both 2 for 4 for Buffalo State.

Buffalo State will visit Fredonia on Wednesday for a SUNYAC doubleheader at 3 p.m.
