Softball Rebounds for Split Against Geneseo

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (12-4/4-2) bounced back to claim the second half of a SUNYAC doubleheader, 7-3, after falling to visiting Geneseo (9-9/6-2), 8-2, in the opener today at Bengal Field.

Both teams scored twice in the first inning of the opening game, but Geneseo exploded with a four-run fourth and added two more in the sixth to cruise to the early 8-2 victory. Freshman Christina Tschari (Williamsville/Clarence) was the only Bengal with multiple hits, going 2 for 3. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was 1 for 3 with a triple and a run scored, and Jenna Schwartzmeyer (Williamsville/Williamsville South) went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) suffered her first loss of the season, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs, while striking out eight.

Buffalo State pounded 10 hits in the late game, and never trailed en route to the 7-3 victory. Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) broke out of a recent slump, going 3 for 3 with a double and two runs. Hutten was 2 for 4 with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) earned the win on the mound, scattering seven hits and allowing no earned runs.

Buffalo State will host RIT in a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow at 3 and 5 p.m.
