Buffalo State continued its training trip in Ft. Myers, FL today as it opened the day with a 16-7 victory over New England (NH), but could not earn a sweep for the fourth consecutive day as it fell to Southern Maine, 8-7, in the second game.

The Bengals needed just six innings to dispense with New England in today's opener. Lauren Mruk (Lancaster) was 2-for-4 with a homerun and five RBI to pace Buffalo State's offense. Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls) was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Freshman Lauren Wright (Westfield) allowed six runs before being relieved by Liz Beiter (N. Tonawanda) with two outs in the third inning. Beiter earned the victory.

In the loss to Southern Maine, Lindsey Matheis (Hamburg) went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Emily Goldyn (Lancaster) was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster) took the loss on the mound, allowing 12 hits in six innings.

Buffalo State is now 4-4 and will play two more games tomorrow morning, before boarding a plane and heading back to Buffalo later in the day. The Bengals will face Lawrence (WI) at 8:30 a.m. and Wisconsin-Whitewater at 10:30 a.m.
