Buffalo State sprinted to a 5-0 victory over visiting Brockport in the first half of today's doubleheader, but the Golden Eagles rallied from three runs down in the second game to earn a 4-3 victory.

In the opener, Buffalo State blew the game open in the third inning with four runs on four hits, three errors and a wild pitch. That would be more than enough support for pitcher Liz Beiter (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) who improved to 6-0 with her second-consecutive shutout, allowing just two Brockport hits. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West), Alyssa Brosius (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda), Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) and Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) were all 2-for-4 for the Bengals. Lindsay Adamy (Lancaster/Lancaster) recorded the loss on the mound for Brockport allowing five hits, but just one earned run as she was relieved with two outs in the third inning. Kristin Whittaker (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) doubled for the Golden Eagles.

Buffalo State jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Brockport battled its way back, however, scoring single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings. That set the stage for Laura Laramie's (Queensbury/Queensbury) bases loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring pinch runner Jen Stanbrough (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) to end the game. Jodie Shaw (Queensbury/Queensbury) earned the win on the mound allowing 11 hits in seven innings. Whittaker was 3-for-4 to lead the Golden Eagles bats. Nicole Florack (Rochester/East Ridge) and Sarah Wlodarczyk (Newark/Newark) were each 2-for-3, and Laramie was 2-for-4. Buffalo State received two hits apiece from Goldyn, Mruk, Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) and Lindsey Matheis (Hamburg/Williamsville South). Beiter took the loss on the mound as she allowed two runs after relieving Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) in the fifth inning.

Buffalo State improved to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in SUNYAC play. The Bengals will travel to RIT tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader. Brockport is now 4-11 and 1-3 in conference action and will play at Plattsburgh this Friday.
