Softball Splits Doubleheader With Southern Maine

Buffalo State earned a split against Southern Maine today, falling 3-1 before winning 1-0 at the Lee County Sports Complex in Ft. Myers, Fla.

The Bengals suffered their first defeat of the season in the opener, as they were only able to plate a single run on four hits. Southern Maine scored in the first, third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead, and Buffalo State could not overcome the deficit. Alyssa Brosius (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) went 2 for 3 for the Bengals. Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) was 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI, and Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was 1 for 3 with a run scored. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) threw four innings and allowed six hits and one earned run in the loss.

Buffalo State rebounded in the second game with a 1-0 victory. Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) hit a two-out triple in the sixth inning to score Rammacher and break the scoreless tie. Goldyn was 2 for 3 for the game. Sophomore Lauren Wright (Westfield/Westfield) threw the complete game shutout, allowing just three hits.

Buffalo State will complete its southern trip tomorrow with a doubleheader against D’Youville at 9 and 11 a.m.
