Softball Splits with New Paltz
BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (8-4/1-1) rallied twice today, but was only able to earn a split against visiting New Paltz (10-8/1-3) in a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Bengal Field. New Paltz won the opener, 7-4, but Buffalo State claimed the second game, 3-2.
In the opener, New Paltz exploded for four runs in the third inning including a two-run inside the park homerun. Buffalo State cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the inning with a three-run blast by Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale). The Bengals tied the score when they manufactured a run in the bottom of the sixth, but New Paltz retaliated with a three-run seventh to claim the win. Arielle Austin (Smithtown/ Smithtown West) was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Nicole Maher (Waterloo/ Waterloo) was 2 for 4. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/ Williamsville North) took the loss, allowing eight hits and three runs, two earned, in 4 1/3 innings of relief. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/ Frontier) started the game, but allowed four runs on three hits before being pulled with two outs in the third inning.
New Paltz jumped out to a lead again in the second game, scoring two runs in the second inning. The Bengals rallied with a run in the third and two more in the fifth to record the 3-2 victory. Christina Tschari (Clarence/ Clarence) went 3 for 3 with an RBI. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) was 2 for 3, and Maher was 1 for 2 with a double and two RBIs. Fisher earned the win, throwing 5 1/3 innings of shutout relief, allowing just three hits. Frieling surrendered two runs, one earned, and two hits in 1 2/3 innings in the start.
Buffalo State will host Oneonta tomorrow at 11 a.m.
