Softball Splits With Plattsburgh to Close Regular Season
Buffalo State (27-9/12-8) met Plattsburgh at SUNYIT and split with the Cardinals, winning 1-0 and falling 2-1, today to complete the regular season for both teams.
In the opener, Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) singled to drive in Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) for the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) allowed just four hits for the shutout victory.
In the nightcap, Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) led the Bengals' offense, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) threw a five-hitter for Buffalo State in the loss.
Buffalo State will open the double-elimination SUNYAC Championship at Cortland as the No. 5 seed. The Bengals will face No. 4 Oneonta in the tourney's first game on Thursday at 10 a.m.
