BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (11-3/3-1) defeated Brockport (12-4/4-2) 6-3 in the opener, but the Golden Eagles rallied from four runs down to win the late game, 7-6 in eight innings, to split a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Bengal Field.

Buffalo State assembled a three-run first inning in the opener and extended the lead to 5-0 with a two-run third. Brockport responded with solo homeruns in the fourth and seventh innings and plated another run in the last, but the Bengals held on for the 6-3 win. Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) was 2 for 2 for the Bengals with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs, and Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was also 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) improved to 8-0 on the mound, striking out 10 and allowing six hits and three runs.

In the nightcap, Buffalo State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning, but Brockport evened the score after scoring one in the third and three in the fourth. Both teams traded runs in the sixth, and the Bengals edged out front, 6-5, in the top of the eighth inning. Brockport capitalized on a pair of Bengal errors in the bottom of the eighth, however, and escaped with a 7-6 victory. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was 3 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the Bengals. Mruk and Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) were each 2 for 4. Jenna Schwartzmeyer (Williamsville/Williamsville South) took the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs and four hits in four innings pitched. She was pulled in the fourth inning, but returned in the eighth.

Buffalo State is scheduled to play another conference doubleheader at Oneonta on Friday at 3 and 5 p.m.
