Softball Sweeps D'Youville to Wrap Up Florida Trip

Buffalo State (9-1) wrapped up its spring trip with a pair of wins over D’Youville (2-12), winning 9-0 in six innings and 4-0, today in Ft. Myers, Fla.

Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) opened the scoring in the first game with a bases loaded-clearing double in the third inning to give the Bengals an early 3-0 lead. Sabuda added a two-run homer in the fifth and finished the game 4 for 4 with six RBIs. Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) was 2 for 3 with two RBI, and Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was 2 for 4. Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) added a solo-homerun. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) earned her third shutout of the season, scattering three hits and striking out eight.

In the second game, Buffalo State scored all four of its runs in the first inning, capitalizing on three D’Youville errors. Hutten was 2 for 3, and Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored. Melissa Balsavage (Depew/Depew) earned the win on the mound, tossing a complete game two-hitter.

Buffalo State is scheduled to open its SUNYAC regular season this Friday at home against SUNYIT with a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
