Softball Sweeps Potsdam; Clinches Playoff Berth
Buffalo State clinched its 11th SUNYAC playoff berth in 13 seasons today with a pair of victories at Potsdam, 7-1 and 8-0.
In the opener, Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) paced the Bengals' offense, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Liz Beiter (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) earned the win on the mound, throwing a five-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Buffalo State needed just five innings in the nightcap to take the 8-0 win. Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) tossed a one-hitter with six strikeouts. Alyssa Brosius (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) had a triple with three RBI, and Emily Goldyn (Lancaster/Lancaster) also tripled with a pair of RBI.
Buffalo State improved to 20-12 overall and 12-4 in SUNYAC. The Bengals will visit Plattsburgh tomorrow.
