Softball Swept at Cortland in Regular Season Finale

CORTLAND, NY—Buffalo State (25-9/15-5) dropped a pair of games at Cortland (31-7/20-0), 5-4 and 9-1, today, to fall to third place entering this week’s SUNYAC Championship.

In the first game, the Bengals trailed 4-0 after five innings before freshman Christina Tschari (Williamsville/Clarence) belted her first career homerun, a grand slam, to even the score in the top of the sixth inning. The Red Dragons won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, however, on a sacrifice fly. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 3. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) took the loss, allowing nine hits and four earned runs with five strikeuts.

Buffalo State was unable to get going in the second game, only mustering four hits in a 9-1 loss. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) was 1 for 2 with a double, and Tschari was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Jenna Schwartzmeyer (Williamsville/Williamsville South) suffered the loss, allowing 11 hits and nine earned runs.

Buffalo State enters this week’s double-elimination SUNYAC tournament at Cortland as the No. 3 seed, and will face No. 4 Brockport on Thursday at 1 p.m.
