Buffalo State (22-8) swept visiting University of Rochester (20-15), 9-1 in five innings and 12-11 in a “roller coaster” 11-inning nightcap, today at Bengal Field.

Buffalo State made short work of the Yellowjackets in the opener, scoring early and often en route to the 9-1 five-inning victory. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) earned the win on the mound, scattering six hits and allowing no earned runs. She also helped her cause at the plate, going 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) went 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored, and Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

In the nightcap, the two teams combined for 23 runs, 32 hits and 10 errors. Rochester forced extra innings by erasing a 6-3 deficit with three runs in the top of the fourth. The Yellowjackets then appeared to be in control, scoring four runs in the top of the 10th inning, but the Bengals rallied in the bottom of the inning to even the score at 10-10. Rochester plated another run in the 11th, but the Bengals battled back and finally won the game on a two-run double by freshman Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale), who finished the game 3 for 5 with three runs scored. Sirianni was 4 for 5 with a homerun and five RBIs. Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) was 4 for 6 with a double. Lauren Wright (Westfield/Westfield) was the winning pitcher of record, throwing eight-and-one-third innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs.

Buffalo State will host Potsdam in a SUNYAC doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m.
