Softball Uses Long Ball in Sweep Over Fredonia
BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (15-7/7-3) belted four homeruns in a two-game sweep over visiting Fredonia (7-15/2-10) today, winning 4-0 and 8-2.
Jordan Banach’s (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) solo-homerun in the third inning opened the scoring in the first game. The Bengals went on to add a pair of insurance runs in the fourth and one more in the sixth. Carly Lopez (Oriskany/ Oriskany) was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, and Arielle Austin (Smithtown/ Smithtown West) added a two-RBI single. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/ Frontier) cruised to her second shutout of the season, allowing just five hits, striking out four.
Fredonia jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead before the Bengals plated eight runs on the strength of three homeruns, including a 3-run shot by Jordan Banach. Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/ Mt. St. Mary) and Nicole Maher (Waterloo/ Waterloo) hit solo homers. Jolene Banach (Cheektowaga/ Maryvale) was 3 for 4, and Jessica Mooney (Tonawanda/ Kenmore West) was 2 for 3. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/ Williamsville North) earned the win in the circle, allowing six hits and one earned run.
Buffalo State will visit the University of Rochester tomorrow for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
