Buffalo State (26-8/11-7) capitalized on big hits and relied on strong pitching in a two-game sweep at Fredonia (13-21/7-10) today, winning 1-0 and 3-0.

In the opener, the game’s only run came in the sixth inning. After a single by Laurie Hutten (Tonawanda/Kenmore West), Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) hit a two-out, run-scoring triple. Pitcher Kristen Scheffold (Lancaster/Lancaster) made the run stand, allowing just five hits, and striking out seven for the complete game shutout. Hutten finished 2 for 3, and Sirianni was 1 for 3.

In the nightcap, the Bengals score two runs in the fifth and added another in the sixth to clinch the victory. Jordan Banach (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) led the Bengals’ offense, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Hutten was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Sirianni and Lauren Mruk (Lancaster/Lancaster) each added doubles. Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) tossed a five-hitter for the shutout.

Buffalo State will complete its home schedule on Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader against Ithaca starting at 1 p.m.
