Speaker Series Hosted at Hallwalls
Where is that stray shopping cart coming from and going next? What is the relationship of that exotic dancer to her customers? How does memory shape society's image of itself?
These and other thought-provoking themes are addressed in the free-spirited works and presentations of authors and artists featured in Buffalo State College's Annual Sociology Speaker Series, April 21 - 28, Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, 341 Delaware Avenue. The series is free and open to all.
This year's week-long event pays tribute to Talking Leaves, Western New York's oldest independent bookstore, and its legacy of promoting literacy and public discussion. Befitting this theme, the series opens with a screening of "Indies Under Fire," a documentary by noted filmmaker, Jacob Bricca, about three independent bookstores fighting for survival. A panel discussion with Bricca and Jonathon Welch of Talking Leaves follows. Throughout the week, 15 noted authors and artists from the U.S. and abroad are featured. For all speakers, dates and times, visit www.softarcades.com or www.Hallwalls.org
