Spring Community Service Day: April 16

Share with...
A Buffalo State tradition continues Saturday, April 16, as nearly 400 students will participate in the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center’s Spring Community Service Day.

Student volunteers—representing a wide array of student groups, including 29 Greek organizations—will work at sites throughout the city to complete revitalization projects. Tasks will include building garden beds at the Asarese-Matters Community Center, creek clean up and trail maintenance along Scajaquada Creek, planting blueberry and raspberry bushes at the Curtis Urban Farm, building an accessible ramp into a local church, and street sweeps along Grant Street and Elmwood Avenue.

Buffalo State’s Community Service Day is affiliated with Keep America Beautiful’s 2011 Great American Cleanup and is also connected to Earth Day and Global Youth Service Day, April 22.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the Buckham Campus School by 8:30 a.m.; bus transportation will be provided to and from most locations. Projects should be completed by 12:30  p.m., with a picnic lunch to follow.

It’s not too late to join in the fun—send your name and e-mail address to vslc@buffalostate.edu, call 878-5811, or visit Cleveland Hall 306.

Community Service Day is funded in part M&T Bank and a grant from the Buffalo State Faculty Student Association.
