More than 100 Buffalo State student-athletes took part in "The Athletic Advantage: Scoring Big in Your Career" on Tuesday, an event sponsored by Intercollegiate Athletics, the Career Development Center and the Alumni Association.

The event was the most collaborative CHAMPS Program to date and was geared to provide student-athletes with the necessary tools for success beyond graduation and focus on the transferable skills from athletics to the working world.

Fifteen former Buffalo State student-athletes returned to campus to interact with current student-athletes and share the "secrets to their success" in the "real world". In round table discussions, current student-athletes were able to network with the alumni and gather information about career choices.

The student-athletes were divided by class year, and also spent time with representatives from the Career Development Center, learning tips on resume writing, choosing a major/career field, the job search and selecting a graduate school.

"I received tremendous information that made me feel better about my future," said women's soccer player Julia Spak.

The athletics department is looking forward to making this an annual event.
