Students’ Act of Kindness Brings Warmth in Below-Zero Weather

It’s been a tough month for the grounds crew at Buffalo State. Trying to keep the walkways clear and parking spaces available in the face of a record snowpack and below-freezing temperatures for weeks has been frustrating for the campus grounds crew.

This morning, two students celebrated Buffalo State’s “random acts of kindness” week by stopping in at the Clinton Center with coffee and donuts from Tim Horton’s. “They had a little tag on the package that said ‘random acts of kindness,’” said Joyce Sniegowski, who works at the customer service counter of Campus Services in the Clinton Center.

“They didn’t give us their names,” said Sniegowski. “They just said they wanted us to know that they appreciate all the hard work we’re doing this winter.”

The students’ simple, thoughtful gesture lifted the spirits of the people who have been working long hours to make it possible for 12,000 people to get around a 125-acre campus. “Sometimes they’re putting in 16-hour days,” said Sniegowski. “And it’s cold outside.”
