As part of Buffalo State's Community Service Day, fine arts students completed a beautification project at the Asarese Youth Center.
Students from Beth Hinderliter's Fine Arts and Criticism course had participated in a semester-long service-learning project to plan and paint a mural at the center. Finishing touches were completed during Buffalo State's Community Service Day, April 24.

A colorful, wall-sized depiction of the various sports activities hosted at the center, the mural is a testament to Buffalo State students' creative approach to service.

Since 2005, Volunteer and Service-Learning Center (VSLC) students and faculty have been working with Asarese staff to improve the center's building, programming, and safety. More than 15 service-learning classes have been involved in the revitalization of the center so far.

Established in 1989, the Asarese Youth Center, located on Rees Street adjacent to the Buffalo State campus, serves about 300 at-risk youths, ages 8 to 18, each week. Read more.
