SUNYIT Outscored Men's Basketball, 95-90
UTICA, NY—Chris Reaves scored 31 points to lead host SUNYIT (3-1/2-0) past Buffalo State (4-2/2-1), 95-90, today in a SUNYAC shootout in Utica.
Buffalo State led by as many as seven in the opening half, but SUNYIT closed the opening 20 minutes with a 12-2 run to even the score at 48-48 at halftime. The teams traded leads throughout the second stanza until the Wildcats finally took the lead for good with 4:12 remaining. The Bengals closed the gap to 91-90 with 17 seconds remaining, but SUNYIT made four free throws in the closing seconds to ice the victory.
Reaves was 11 of 20 from the field and added nine assists and five steals. Chantal Bien-Aime added 17 points, and JP Adams score 13.
Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham) led the Bengals with his second career-high of the week, scoring 33 points on 12 of 24 shooting and 7 of 14 from long range. James Williams (Brooklyn/William Grady) scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Dion Mozelle (Rego Park/Xaverian) added 11 points and Jobany Tirado (Syracuse/Corcoran) chipped in 10.
Buffalo State will host Hilbert, D’Youville and Medaille in next weekend’s Holiday Inn Invitational. The Bengals will open against Hilbert on Friday at 8 p.m.
