Swimming and Diving Teams Fall at Division II Gannon

Buffalo State competed in a dual meet at Gannon today, and the Division II program proved to be too strong on both sides as the men fell 128-85, and the women were defeated 140-88.

Kevin Buisman (Rochester/Penfield) led the Bengals' men's team, touching first in a pair of events. The freshman won the 200 breast (2:25.07) and captured the 1000 free (10:59.04). Mike Luther (Blasdell/Frontier) also earned a win in the pool for the Bengals, placing first in the 200 back with a time of 2:13.47. Senior diver Bret Stodolka (Darien/Alexander) earned first place on the three-meter board, scoring 218.00.

On the women's side, freshman Nicole Rutkowski (Williamsville/Williamsville North) continued her impressive rookie season. She placed first on both the one-meter (241.60) and three-meter (255.20) boards, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying score on the three-meter. Other strong performances were submitted by Katie Perusich (Kenmore/Kenmore East) in the 200 free (2nd/2:11.05) and by Mindy Wood (Middlesex/Marcus Whitman) in the 500 free (2nd/5:42.91).

Buffalo State's men fell to 3-2, and the women dropped to 2-4. Both teams will return to action on Monday, when they host Cortland at 1 p.m.
