Swimming & Diving Downs Pitt-Bradford With Record-Setting Day

BRADFORD, PA--Buffalo State's swimming and diving teams set eight Duke Aquatic Center pool records tonight as the Bengals easily defeated host Pitt-Bradford tonight. The men (1-3) claimed a 121-60 win, and the women (2-3) won 121-33.

Five pool marks fell on the men's side. Bryant Stewart (Owego/Owego Free) set the new best in the 1650 free (19:37.24). Other individual records were set by Tim Harroun (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) in the 200 breast (2:29.82), Lance Thornton (Hastings/Hastings) in the 200 fly (2:32.25) and Kevin Buisman (Penfield/Penfield) in the 400 IM (4:47.79). The 400 medley relay team of Cory Skiba (Buffalo/Kenmore West), Rich Aguilo (Wantagh/Wantagh), Stewart and Vince Wasneechak (Gorham, ME/Lemoore) also set a new record with a time of 4:10.85.

The women's team set three new pool standards, with Elisabeth Hilzen (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) winning the 1650 free (21:29.03) and Kelly Swanson (Amherst/Amherst) winning the 200 fly (2:47.41). The 400 medley relay team of Hilzen, Swanson, Stacey Jones (Hamburg/Hamburg) and Sarah Green (N. Tonawanda/Starpoint) also set a new best with a time of 4:56.35.

Pitt-Bradford, just in its second year of NCAA competition, fielded rosters of just seven men and two women.

Buffalo State will next compete at teh North Country Invitational at Potsdam next Friday and Saturday.
