Tenth Annual Western New York Women's Hall of Fame Ceremony Slated for March 9

The Western New York’s Women Hall of Fame will honor eight women at its 10th Annual Luncheon at noon on March 9 in the Adam’s Mark Hotel. The eight new inductees were nominated by their peers in recognition for their work and inspiration that have deeply enriched the Western New York community.

The 2006 honorees are:

Louise Blanchard Bethune, FAIA, the first of two posthumous recipients, she designed the Hotel Lafayette and was the first woman admitted to the American Institute of Architects.

Katharine Cornell, the second posthumous recipient, she was one of the great actresses of the American theater, and began her stage career in Buffalo.

JoAnn Falletta, the highly regarded conductor and music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, who has enhanced the image of the orchestra and the city.

Ernestine R. Green, an educator and indefatigable civic leader, she was the first woman appointed by the governor as a commissioner of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.

Edna M. Lindemann, Ph.D., an artist, teacher and founding director of the Burchfield-Penney Art Center who led that organization for 19 years.

E. Jeannette Ogden, a distinguished Buffalo City Court Judge, she is known for

her extraordinary community service.

Suzanne Oliver. who introduced Sister-to-Sister, a support program for adolescent girls, and made it a permanent fixture in Buffalo. She is also being recognized for her work with organizations such as the American Association of University Women.

Sister Edmunette Paczesny, who as president of Hilbert College oversaw the expansion of a two-year school into a dynamic four year college.

Established by the Western New York Women’s History Committee, the Western New York Women’s Hall of Fame recognizes women who have achieved high distinction and demonstrated commitment of service to the Western New York community.

Since 1994, the Women’s History Committee, chaired by Dr. Geraldine Bard, co-director of Project FLIGHT and professor of English at Buffalo State, has organized regional events during the month of March that focus on women’s issues.
