Theater Department Announces 2013-2014 Season

SUNY Buffalo State’s Casting Hall Productions has announced a diverse and exciting lineup of student performances for the 2013–2014 academic year.

Doubt, A Parable
Written by John Patrick Shanley, this drama questions a young priest’s relationship with a male student at the school where he teaches. Theater lecturer Maureen Porter directs.

Performances: October 2–5 and October 9–12 at 8:00 p.m. and October 5 and 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Flexible Theatre, Donald Savage Theater and Communication Building.
 

The Night of the Iguana
This Tennessee Williams classic explores the loneliness and despair shared by several characters who meet one night in a Costa Verde hotel. Donn Youngstrom, associate professor and chair of theater, directs.

Performances: November 6–9 and November 14–16 at 8:00 p.m. and November 9 and 16 at 2:00 p.m. in Warren Enters Theatre, Upton Hall.

   

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
The college’s “Andy Anselmo” musical, written by Rachel Sheinkin and William Finn, provides an amusing look at a regional spelling bee composed of adolescent contestants. Directed by assistant theater professor Jennifer Toohey.

Performances:  March 6–7 and March 13–14 at 8:00 p.m.
March 8 and 15 at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in Warren Enters Theatre, Upton Hall.
   

Seeds
The Buffalo State faculty-choreographed dance concert presents experiments in exponential expressions.

Performances: April 23–26 at 8:00 p.m. and April 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Warren Enters Theatre, Upton Hall.
 

Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for faculty and staff; and $6 for Buffalo State students. High school students with ID are admitted for free. Tickets will be available through the Rockwell Hall Box Office or by phone at (716) 878-3005. Additionally, the Theater Department is producing the original play, Dear Me, written by the Theater Ensemble Class as part of the Anne Frank Project to be held September 11–13 on campus. Dear Me is a drama dealing with bullying, teen suicide, and forgiveness. Theater professor Drew Kahn directs.

Performed on September 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Donald Savage Theater and Communication Building, Dear Me is open to the public and admission is free.
