Three Winners for Track & Field at Spartan Relays

CLEVELAND, Ohio—Buffalo State claimed three individual first-place finishes at the Case Western Reserve Spartan Relays today, as the women’s team placed sixth of 12 teams, and the men finished seventh of 11.

Jenelle Orosz (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) and Tenisha Jones (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) led the Bengals women, with Orosz winning the high jump (1.62m), and Jones taking the triple jump (10.48m). Sarah Gedraitis (Lockport/Akron) broke her own record in the 20-lb. weight throw for the second week in a row, finishing second with a throw of 13.47m. LaVonne Barfield (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) added a third-place finish in the triple jump (10.28m), and Danielle Smelser (Plattsburgh/Plattsburgh) was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:29.64).

On the men’s side, Tim Diegelman (Clarence/Clarence) led the way, winning the long jump (6.43m). Elvis Bream (Lockport/Lockport) was second in the 400-meter run (50.81). Mario Hicks (Corning/Corning) and Joe Russell (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) finished second (7.97) and fourth (8.25) respectively in the 55-meter high hurdles, and Joe Wooley (Amherst/Sweet Home) was fifth in the triple jump (12.61m).

Buffalo State will compete next Saturday at the Mt. Union Invitational.
