Track and Field Compete at SUNYAC Championships

The Buffalo State track and field team took home three first place finishes as it participated in the SUNYAC Championships at Oneonta this weekend. The men’s team placed sixth of eight teams while the women placed eighth of eight teams.

On Friday, Ken Ciolek (Limestone/Bradford Area) placed first in the long jump, clearing 22’9”. He also tied for fourth in the high jump with a 6’ jump. Todd Wassinger (Sanborn/Starpoint) placed sixth in the hammer throw, clearing a distance of 137’9”. Wassinger also finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 44’8”. On the women’s side, Lauren Reese (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) captured a seventh place finish in the shot put, posting a distance of 31’6”.

On Saturday, Richard Harris (Rochester/Hilton) captured the SUNAYC Championship in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.53, a new SUNAYC Championship record. Tim Giagios (Rochester/Gates-Chili) placed second in the 400 hurdles, posting a time of 55.52, while Ciolek took his second first place finish of the weekend, finishing first in the javelin throw with 172”. Jenelle Orosz (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda) finished third in the high jump with 5’ ?”. Krystyna Markut (Depew/Lancaster) set a new school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:55.75, giving her an eighth place finish. Sarah Gedraitis (Lockport/Akron) took fifth in the discuss throw, registering 100’8”. Jamie Abbott (Pulaski/Pulaski) finished sixth in the javelin throw with a distance of 88’6”.

The Bengals will compete next weekend at the NYSCTC Championships at the University of Rochester.
