Track & Field Dominates in Final Tune-Up at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio--Buffalo State was dominant today at the Baldwin Wallace Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Indoor Track at the Lou Higgins Center, the final meet before next week's SUNYAC Championships. Buffalo State athletes captured 11 first-place finishes and set two school records. The meet was not team-scored.

Jenelle Orosz (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) eclipsed her own school record, winning the high jump with a leap of 1.71m. Toya Edwards (Brooklyn/Clara Barton) won two events, capturing the 55m dash (7.40) and the 200m dash (26.61). LaVonne Barfield (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) won the long jump (5.17m) and was second in the triple jump (10.53m). Danielle Smelser (Plattsburgh/Plattsburgh) also won the mile in 5:34.05. Candace Aaron (Coram/Longwood) added a school-record in the 20-lb. weight throw, finishing fourth (14.18m). She was also third in the shot put (11.09m). Jameieka Price (Niagara Falls/Aviano American) had a third-place showing in the 400m dash (1:01.88).

On the men's side, Willie Hordge (Buffalo/Forestbrook TX) made his debut winning the 200m (22.68) and the 400m (51.06) events. Elvis Bream (Lockport/Lockport) was second in each event in 22.99 and 51.15 respectively. Joe Wooley (Amherst/Sweet Home) won both the long (6.37m) and triple (13.57) jumps. Joe Russell (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) crossed first in the 55m dash (6.71) and was second in the 55m hurdles (8.10). Mario Hicks (Corning/Corning West) won the 55m hurdles (7.65). Shilah Richardson (Auburn/Auburn) was third in the 400m dash (52.35), Ray Shadowens (Troup, TX/Arp) finished third in the long jump (6.09m), and Josh Demars (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) was third in the 800m run (2:04.34).

Buffalo State will compete at the SUNYAC Championships at Hobart and William Smith Colleges next weekend.
