Track & Field Posts Strong Showings at New York State Championships

CANTON, NY--Buffalo State's women's track and field team finished fourth of 16 teams at the NYSCTC Championships in at St. Lawrence today, marking a nine-place improvement from last season. The men also had a strong showing, moving up six spots from a year ago, finishing fifth of 15 teams.

Toya Edwards (Brooklyn/Clara Barton) continued her dominance, winning the 55-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.32 and won the 200-meter dash with a school and meet record time of 25.97. Edwards was honored as the Runner of the Meet for her efforts. Jameieka Price (Niagara Falls/Aviano American) broke her own school record with a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash (58.95). Tiffany Aaron (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) and Chelsea Prophet (Buffalo/deVinci) were second and third respectively in the 55-meter dash with time of 7.47 and 7.50. Tenisha Jones (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) added a fifth-place finish in triple jump (10.84m). Candace Aaron (Coram/Longwood) was also fifth in the shot put (11.61m).

The men captured individual championships led by Mario Hicks (Corning/Corning West), who won the 55-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.67. Joe Wooley (Amherst/Sweet Home) added a title in the triple jump (13.59m), and Elvis Breem (Lockport/Lockport) captured the 400-meter dash (50.47). Ray Shadowens (Troup, TX/Arp) added a second-place showing in the 55-meter hurdles (7.93).
