Two Provisional Qualifiers Highlights for Track and Field at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA—Sharesa Baldwin (Brooklyn/ Clara Barton) provisionally qualified for the NCAA championship in the triple jump, and the women’s 4x100 relay team also met the standard and set a new school record at the Slippery Rock Invitational today.

Baldwin won the triple jump with a distance of 11.31 meters. Katya Marin (Mt. Vernon/ Mt Vernon), Latoya D. Edwards (Brooklyn/ Clara Barton), Lavonne Barfield (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) and Anika Niles (Brooklyn/ Samuel J. Tilden) teamed in the 4x100-meter relay to break the school record and place second with a time of 48.24 seconds. Marin, Edwards, Niles also teamed with Chenell Coleman (Buffalo/ McKinley) to win the 4x400-meter relay in 4:14.09. Edwards added a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash (59.23), and Barfield was third in the triple jump (11.02m).

Ali Abdul-Matin (Troy/ Troy) had the best finish for the men, placing fourth in the long jump (6.34m). Mario Hicks (Corning/ Corning West) was fifth in the 100-meter dash(11.02).

Buffalo State will next compete at the SUNYAC Championships at Cortland on April 25 and 26.
