UB Provost To Deliver Keynote Address at Western New York Network for Women Leaders in Higher Education Conference

University at Buffalo Provost Elizabeth D. Capaldi will deliver the keynote address at the Western New York Network for Women Leaders in Higher Education Leadership Conference on Friday, Apr. 26, 2002, at the UB Center for Tomorrow. Her talk, entitled "Why We Like the Foods We Like - the Good, the Bad and the Fattening," will begin at 9:30 a.m. and explore the psychology of food and its effect on behavior. It will be followed by a roundtable discussion and question and answer period.

Also at the conference, Marsha D. Jackson, associate vice president for Student Affairs at Erie Community College, will receive the network's 13th Annual Bernice Poss Award.

Capaldi has been provost and professor of psychology at UB since July 2000. Prior to that, she was provost at the University of Florida. Her research centers on the reasons people like certain foods and learned motivation. She has authored more than 60 chapters, articles and books on the subject, co-authored an introductory psychology textbook and edited two books on the psychology of eating.

Past president of the American Psychological Society, Capaldi has been elected a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester and her doctorate in experimental psychology from the University of Texas.

The Western New York Network for Women Leaders was organized in 1983 and is active in planning professional development programs for women administrators in higher education.
