As part of the Great Performers Series presented by M&T Bank, innovative and world-recognized ukulele performer and composer Jake Shimabukuro will present a solo concert on Saturday, April 20, at 8:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.

The Honolulu-born musician and YouTube sensation has taken the four-string, two-octave instrument to new levels, performing a wide range of  music with stunning virtuosity, deep musicality and a natural entertainer’s flair.

His career skyrocketed when a clip of him performing “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” in Central Park attracted millions of views (currently at 11 million and counting!).

Shimabukuro has toured with Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, collaborated with Ziggy Marley, and regularly performed with Jimmy Buffet’s Coral Reefers band. With his light-speed finger work, Shimabukuro plays original pieces and cover songs by artists ranging from Bach to Michael Jackson.

Peace Love Ukulele, Shimabukuro’s debut studio album released in 2011, topped the World Albums chart. On his most recent album, Grand Ukulele, Shimabukuro collaborates with legendary producer/engineer Alan Parsons, who brought in a 29-piece orchestra and all-star rhythm section.

Tickets are $35 for the lower tier, $30 for the upper tier, $27 for seniors and Buffalo State faculty and staff. Students may purchase $15 tickets one hour prior to the concert.

Tickets can be purchased at the Rockwell Hall Box Office, online, or via phone at (716) 878-3005.
