Annie Phillipone!
Buffalo is one lucky town to have Annie
By Charles Mancuso
With her long flowing red curls, she bounces on the piano bench playing the most rollicking brand of boogie this side of Austin’s celebrated Marcia Ball. Annie not only plays great boogie woogie, but also classics of country, blues and rockand she is a terrific singer as well. She is one of the only blues and boogie greats to include classical music etudes to stunned but highly appreciative audiences.
Last spring the Burchfield-Penney hosted Annie's annual student piano recital. Students that ranged in age from 5 to 85 playedand most concentrated on classics to boogie woogie (yes, even an 85 year old great-grandmother wailed on boogie woogie piano, thanks to Annie's teaching).
So, get ready for a full force of Hurricane Annie at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center!
